Original Poetry by Sheilagh Nasindu

A FATEFUL DAY (POVERTY)

A fateful day it is,
Gloomy and cloudy sky,
Screams of the younger as they hunger
For the expensive basic care,
Awakening the poor in rivalry
To inevitably define their absolute destitution.

Cripples curse their fate,
Street children crumble in bins,
In tatters paupers languish
Devastating state of economy,
Jobless people scratch their heads,
As their efforts end up to nought.

With their mouths blank and open,
Uncertain of what and how the morrow will be,
They yearn for the marvelous fruits of the world,
Education, jobs and satisfaction,
Only to find poverty and discrimination
Reflected in their cracked mirrors of hope.

The gentries of this worthless day,
In their Mercedes Benz they enjoy their bread,
Like lightning in a street pass,
Splashing water to the helpless poor,
In big hotels they gather at restaurants
As beggars salivate

For all of us, the sky is the limit,
One never knows, we might have power,
The key to change matters at stage,
Prayers to reach our expected desires,
For us to enter moon’s light,
And express our gratitude to the Almighty.

Save for the CES family of schools,
Identified by the great sun in the West
Wiping all traces of bitter sobs,
In the poor and HIV affected people,
And then life has been won for another day.

Thank the Community Education Services,
CES Canada and CES Kenya,
May the Almighty sanctify your work
And bless you abundantly,
For blessed is the hand that giveth.
